I’m already having a good time with the artist this week. Maybe that’s why they rank so high, maybe there are other reasons. I’ll know for sure by Sunday, with any luck. This week is devoted to the Pixies.
Through the week, I’ll be listening to the original four albums of the Pixies: Surfer Rosa (1988), Doolittle (1989), Bossanova (1990) and Trompe le Monde (1991). I’ll also be listening to both albums of the reunited Pixies (minus Kim Deal): Indie City (2014) and Head Carrier (2016). For good measure, I’m throwing in the one-off reunion song Bam Thwok, and the version of Wave of Mutilation on the soundtrack to Pump Up the Volume.
I thought for a bit as to whether I would include some of the solo work in the interim period between the original Pixies and the current Pixies. I like a lot of Frank Black’s solo work, and his work with The Catholics. I like the Breeders a lot, too. But unlike Al Jourgenson or Ben Folds, I do not feel the same about them that I do about the Pixies as a group. So no Cannonball and nothing off of Teenager of the Year. Just Pixies, and nothing more. It’s definitely enough to fill a week, and I’m looking forward to it.
