If ever there was a movie that spoke to my “life has to have a soundtrack” ideal, it is Baby Driver. Directed by one of my favorite directors, Edgar Wright, and starring Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and Jon Hamm, Baby Driver is an amazing movie with an equally amazing soundtrack.
I saw this movie in theaters back in late June, and I’ve just now come back to it now that it is available for home viewing, and I loved it both times. I’m not going to drone on and on about it. First of all, I’m not a good film critic. I’m barely a passable music critic. Second, I don’t think I can add to anything the rest of the internet is saying about how good it is.
So go. Watch it. Enjoy it. Watch it again. Marvel in how it weaves the music into the visuals the entire time. Not some stupid montage sequence. The entire movie uses music in such a fun and profound way. I re-iterate, it is the best example of “life with a soundtrack” I will ever see.
And yes, I own the soundtrack. On vinyl, of course. It is solid, even away from the confines of the movie.
